Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg  – Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2021

A fresher, more scented Clos de Vougeot shaped by a cooler vintage and refined handling. Vibrant aromas of red cherry, forest floor, and crushed violet lead into a structured palate—fine-grained tannins frame bright acid, focused red fruit, and stony minerality toward a fresh, poised finish. Same prime 1 ha parcel; yield slightly lower (due to weather), resulting in roughly 4,500–5,500 bottles. Best enjoyed from 2026 to 2043, offering early perfumed pleasure and long-term finesse.

Description

Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg

Nestled in the heart of Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg stands as one of Burgundy’s most revered and discreet treasures. The estate traces its origins to the early 20th century, but it was under the stewardship of Dr. Georges Mugneret, and later his daughters Marie-Andrée and Marie-Christine, that the domaine rose to international acclaim.

Today, Mugneret-Gibourg produces tiny quantities of Pinot Noir from some of the region’s most coveted sites, including Ruchottes-Chambertin, Echezeaux, Clos Vougeot, and Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées, alongside outstanding village and Premier Cru bottlings. The domaine works just under 9 hectares, all farmed with meticulous attention to detail and a philosophy that blends tradition with modern sensibility.

What defines the style? Elegance, sensuality, and depth. The wines are known for their velvety tannins, purity of fruit, and long aging potential, always expressing their terroir with precision. Vinification is gentle, with fermentation in wooden vats and aging in carefully selected oak barrels (typically 50–70% new for Grand Crus), allowing each cuvée to retain its unique identity.

The Mugneret sisters are admired for their humility, consistency, and the emotional resonance of their wines. While production is very limited, their reputation among collectors, sommeliers, and critics places them among the top echelon of Burgundy producers, often referred to in the same breath as Roumier, Rousseau, and Dujac.
