Château Haut-Brion is the oldest of the great Bordeaux estates, documented from 1533, and the only property outside the Médoc ranked a first growth in 1855. It has belonged to the Dillon family since 1935.

Its white is one of the rarest wines in Bordeaux — a few hundred cases a year from a couple of hectares, and consistently among the most expensive dry whites in the world.

La Clarté is the second white, drawn from the white parcels of both Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion — which makes it the only wine in Bordeaux blending two first-rank Pessac estates. A blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, barrel-fermented in the same cellar as the grands vins.

2020 was hot and dry but early-picked for the whites, which kept their acidity. Grapefruit and white peach over acacia and the waxy lanolin note that Sémillon brings with age; fresh and textured on the palate, closing long and saline.

The closest most collectors will get to white Haut-Brion, and a serious white Bordeaux in its own right.
