Pierre-Vincent Girardin founded his own domaine in Meursault in 2016, at nineteen, on parcels handed down by his father Vincent Girardin. He is the 13th generation of a Burgundian winemaking family; his first vintage was released in 2017.

He farms around five hectares of his own vines, completed by fruit bought from long-standing growers, with the estate set to reach ten hectares and complete its conversion to organic farming by 2026.

The signature is restraint. Ageing takes place in large-format barrels, which slow the exchange with the wood and keep the oak out of the way. The wines are built on tension and precision rather than richness — one of the most closely watched young names in the Côte de Beaune.

Les Grands Épenots lies on the Beaune side of Pommard, the finer half of the village — a premier cru long argued to deserve grand cru standing, giving wines with Pommard’s frame but none of its rusticity.

Dark cherry and blackberry, violet and a touch of clove; tannins that are firm but polished, deep-set fruit through the middle, and a long savoury close. Built to age — give it until 2027 and hold into the 2040s.
