Pristine

Domaine du Cerberon was founded in the 1830s by Pierre Jacquemin, a mustard-maker who turned vigneron, and has passed through six generations of the same family since. It remains small — around 2.84 hectares — with the bulk of its holdings in Meursault and smaller parcels in Pommard and Volnay.

Everything is done in-house, in cellars beneath the centre of Meursault that date from the twelfth to fourteenth centuries. The vineyards are sustainably farmed, and the scale of the domaine means every parcel is worked by hand and vinified separately.

Les Cras lies on the northern edge of Meursault, where the commune meets Volnay. The domaine holds about 0.6 hectares of the premier cru, planted between 1960 and 1982, and the site has a reputation for giving Chardonnay of unusual richness and depth without losing its mineral spine — the classic Meursault profile in its fuller register.

2017 gave Burgundy a generous white vintage with good acidity behind the ripeness, and this wine reflects it: open now, but with the structure to hold for several more years.

NOSE

Hazelnut and toasted bread over ripe pear and citrus, with a stony, faintly smoky edge.

Palate

Full and broad in the Meursault manner, but held by firm acidity and a distinctly saline, mineral finish.

Drinking now, through 2032

Decanting

Not required, though thirty minutes in the glass opens it. Serve at 12-13°C.
