Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay was formed in 1989 when Laura Coffinet and Philippe Duvernay brought together the holdings of two long-established Chassagne families; the Coffinet side traces its vines back to 1860. Their son Bastien joined in 2012. Seven hectares across seven vineyards, four planted to Chardonnay and three to Pinot Noir, with a number of parcels approaching seventy years old.

Philippe handles the vineyards and the cellar, and describes his method as traditional and minimally interventionist — no cold soaking, no fashionable techniques, strict control of yields and everything picked by hand. Fermentation is by indigenous yeast, gravity fed, with new oak kept deliberately low.

Les Blanchots Dessous sits at the southern end of Chassagne, directly against the Grand Cru Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet. Limestone rock over clay and limestone bedrock gives it both drainage and depth, and the wine has long been considered one of the village-level climats that punches well above its classification. It is hand harvested, gently pressed, fermented in barrel and aged around fifteen months with roughly a third new oak, with lees stirring kept to a minimum.

2023 was an abundant, healthy vintage in the Côte de Beaune that produced whites of good fruit and firm acidity. Supplied here in an original six-bottle case.

NOSE

White peach and citrus over hazelnut and a fine flinty note, with discreet oak.

Palate

Rich but tightly wound, with limestone drive and a saline, persistent finish. Real Chassagne substance.
