Champagne Veuve Cliquot, La Grande Dame, Brut – 6x75cl

Box of 6 Bottles (75cl)

Champagne Veuve Cliquot Brut, La Grande Dame 2008

Exhibiting aromas of pear, toasted brad, confit citrus and smoke, the 2008 Brut La Grande Dame is full-bodied, rich and textural, with a deep and layered core, ripe but racy acids and a saline finish. A blend dominated by fully 92% Pinot Noir, this is true to the cuvée’s rich and muscular style, but the vintage lends it welcome additional cut and precision. It’s showing a lot better than the bottles I tasted in the United States last year. 2022 – 2045 – 93pts William Kelley, Wine Advocate, April 2022

Description

Veuve Clicquot is one of the most iconic Champagne houses, known for producing high-quality Champagne with a long history. Founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot, it became a leading name in the Champagne world. The house is particularly famous for its “Yellow Label” Brut, a blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay, which is widely regarded as a classic expression of Champagne.

The brand’s history is particularly linked to Madame Clicquot, known as the “Grand Dame of Champagne,” who took over the business after her husband’s death in 1805. She is credited with innovations such as the invention of the riddling process, which is essential in Champagne production to remove sediment.

Veuve Clicquot is renowned for its consistent quality and elegant style. Their range includes the Yellow Label (the flagship), as well as vintage cuvées, such as the La Grande Dame, and rosé versions. The house uses a significant amount of Pinot Noir in its blends, which gives its Champagnes a rich, full-bodied flavor with hints of fruit, brioche, and nuts.

It’s a premium brand often associated with celebrations, luxury, and sophistication, making it a popular choice for events and gifting. If you’re looking to explore Champagne in the high-end segment, Veuve Clicquot is always a solid choice.
