Maison Fang is one of Burgundy’s most compelling new voices — a négociant project built on rigorous sourcing and a minimal-intervention philosophy, working with growers who farm well and letting the sites do the talking.

Corton-Charlemagne is the great white grand cru of the Côte de Beaune — a broad limestone amphitheatre wrapping the Corton hill, cool enough on its upper slopes to hold acidity even in warm years. The name is Charlemagne’s: legend has it his wife made him plant white here, so the red would stop staining his beard.

2022 was hot and dry but surprisingly generous, and the whites came in riper than expected while keeping their line — particularly at altitude, which is exactly where this site sits.

Lemon peel and white blossom over crushed shell and a smoky note; broad but taut on the palate, carried by saline depth, closing very long and mineral. Give it until 2027.
