Domaine Joannès Violot-Guillemard is a family estate at Pommard, founded in 1880 and long regarded as one of the quieter addresses in the Côte de Beaune. It has been farmed organically since 1999 and certified since 2014. Joannès took over from his father Thierry in 2016 and has made a series of small, deliberate adjustments — more whole cluster in the reds from 2019, earlier racking before autumn to gain purity.

The estate covers around 9.5 hectares, including parcels in Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens and Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches. The house style is consistent across the range: floral, silky reds, and whites with fresh almond, a rich mouthfeel and a fine textural grip.

“En Châteaux” is a monopole in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune — the whole walled parcel belongs to the domaine, which allows it to be farmed and picked exactly as the estate wants. At altitude above the Côte, it gives Chardonnay of good aromatic definition and freshness.

2022 was a warm, sunny and generous vintage in Burgundy that nevertheless retained balance in the better hands. Supplied in an original six-bottle case.
